HVAC-R Management & Upgrades

About HVAC-R Upgrades

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning/refrigeration (HVAC-R) draw approximately 40% of a building’s energy usage, often wasting significant amounts of water within buildings that have a larger footprint.  Inefficient or poorly maintained ventilation systems can cause the build-up of airborne toxins or gases like carbon monoxide (CO).  Significant saving can be reaped from better designed, effectively maintained, and more efficient operation of ventilation fans, air conditioning and heating equipment, pumps, and process machinery.  It is important to look at the entire system and not just its individual parts.  The way the elements work in synergy significantly effects both energy use and water loss.

ReGreen’s in-house personnel evaluate, design, install, and provide ongoing maintenance of your mechanical equipment.  A system that operates efficiently provides not only convenience and ease-of-use for your operations staff, but also a comfortable environment for building occupants and significant cost savings now and into the future.

Benefits of HVAC-R Upgrades:

Two significant opportunities for savings are Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and CO Sensors (carbon monoxide).

  • Many HVAC-R systems operate via motors that run at full capacity all the time, making them inefficient and generating waste.  VFDs can be installed on these motors to reduce their operational capacity in non-peak hours, and can save up to 50%of drive use.
  • All subterranean parking structured are required by law to have exhaust fans that pump out the carbon monoxide produced by vehicles and pump in oxygen.  However, most fans run continuously.  During non-peak hours, these exhaust fans do not need to run at 100% capacity.  CO sensors turn fans on only when levels of CO in the air are approaching unsafe levels, saving significant energy.  CO sensors can save up to 95% of fan energy use.
