The ReGreen Story
California began implementing energy-efficiency measures, like building code and appliance standards, in the 1970s. In early 2008, three young entrepreneurs with a shared passion for environmental stewardship and backgrounds in development, real estate, and business, put their heads together to develop a smart, sustainable business model. They saw that, by auditing the energy utilized by the electrical and mechanical systems in existing buildings, they could identify abundant opportunities for property owners and managers to save a significant portion of the energy and costs for lighting, fan, and pump systems by utilizing measures that cost less than the electricity itself. Kevin Refoua, David Duel, and Sean Neman joined forces to develop this idea into a company that could help businesses cut operating costs in the face of a looming financial crisis.
Started in a one-room office under a freeway overpass near downtown Los Angeles, ReGreen has evolved into a thriving enterprise that has created more than 100 green jobs in an economic downturn – by providing a means for property owners to return significant savings back to their bottom line and free that money up for other uses. The success of this concept has grown the company into a national enterprise, with service personnel available in major metropolitan areas across the country.
In keeping with the company’s initial mission, ReGreen focuses primarily on opportunities that provide cashflow-positive investment opportunities. We also identify rebates and other incentives that can significantly offset initial investment cost, and process the necessary paperwork for owners to receive those benefits. We also monitor, service, and maintain retrofit projects to ensure savings integrity. These rebates for energy and water efficiency upgrades, can cover the majority of the cost to upgrade and renewable energy solutions.
Business owners immediately embraced ReGreen’s provider/service offering, among them some of the region’s most highly respected REITs, resulting in explosive growth. As the recession continued and government regulations required increasing resource economies, ReGreen’s founders developed a Shared Savings Program in 2009 to help their customers implement these money-saving efficiency measures at no up-front cost, and created payment plans that would ensure realized savings until the initial project cost was paid off. A recent addition to our financial services is the offering of complete financing solutions for large projects.
A thriving Service and Maintenance Division supports our long-term relationships with our customers by keeping their upgraded systems running smoothly and profitably. A Recycling Division was added in 2011 to round out our comprehensive service offerings.
Founders Kevin Refoua, David Duel, and Sean Neman envisioned a one-stop-shop with the scope to provide property owners with the ability to harness all of the benefits of energy and water efficiency, renewable resources, and recycling.
Today, ReGreen offers a comprehensive service package that provides building owners with a single source to:
- Identify opportunities for energy and water efficiency, renewable energy, and recycling
- Evaluate the feasibility of those opportunities against the owner’s fiscal and operational objectives
- Procure and install energy and water efficient products and systems, renewable energy systems, and recycling programs
- Provide a variety of financing options that allow owners to start saving immediately with $0 up-front cost
- Submit rebate documentation, and advocate for the owner with the utility companies in order to collect maximum benefits
- Regularly service and maintain the systems once installed.
ReGreen isn’t just about the bottom line, though. With a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, the company gives back to the communities it serves through the ReGreen Outreach program. This initiative leverages partnerships with our customers, vendors, industry alliance partners, non-profit entities, and the local community to identify innovative opportunities to benefit the environment while increasing awareness through education and evolving public understanding that a sustainable business model isn’t just the responsible choice – it’s the profitable choice!
